We are so fortunate to be surrounded by TONS of public land and awesome hikes abound! Here are some of the top-rated hikes in the area.
Sand Dunes Trail
This hike is the top rated trail in the area! It's right next to S Mountain so it's a very short drive from Blue Coyote Ranch! You can pick it up right across the F Street Bridge near Boathouse Cantina. Enjoy great views through this small canyon and bring the pups! You might even see a bighorn sheep. This 3.2 mile hike is moderately challenging.
Mount Shavano and Tabeguache Peak via the Standard Route
One of Colorado's famous "fourteeners," this hike is a must for any experienced mountaineer. Climbing to 14,000 ft is no small feat so make sure to plan ahead and pack well! Hike through aspens and along a stream before summiting the peak. The trail is 11.2 miles and moderately challenging.
Badger Creek Trail
The drive to this hike is almost as epic as the hike itself! Mike and I drive up there just for the scenery sometimes! Hike along the scenic Badger Creek. The hiking trail ends in a marshy area with some cool growth. This trail is 2.2 miles and moderately challenging.
Arkansas River From Hecla Junction
Hiking along a river has to be one of the top most peaceful experiences! Enjoy the gorgeous canyon scenery on this out-and-back 2.1 mile trail along the Arkansas River. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for Bighorn Sheep which are frequently in this canyon!
